5 Day Scenic Skye & Majestic Highlands Tour

We head off to explore one of the most important 
areas in Scotland’s mediaeval history, Stirling. Visit Bannockburn 
Battlefield, where Robert the Bruce defeated a much larger English 
army in 1314, and Old Stirling Bridge, before we head for Stirling 
Castle. This once-royal court of Scotland’s Kings and Queens has a 
long and turbulent history and your 2-hour visit allows you to take 
it all in. Later, visit Doune Castle, which was once a royal residence
and now full of legend and charm.

We tour north through the fabulous landscape of Scotland’s first National Park. This green and leafy area offers multiple photo opportunities as we make our way across Rannoch Moor to the dramatic scenery of Glencoe, which is steeped in bloody history. After lunch, we tour west on the ‘Road to the Isles’, providing wonderful views to the Small Isles of Eigg and Rhum, and cross ‘Over the Sea to Skye’ where we end the day at Eilean Donan Castle.

We head out on a tour of the Isle of Skye, passing through Broadford and on to the main settlement on the island, Portree, with its colourful harbour front and interesting shops. Later, head north into the rugged Trotternish Peninsula for 
lunch and to visit the mysterious Faerie Glen. We take in the unique scenery at the Quiraing, the Old Man of Storr, and Kilt Rock Falls before travelling back down the island for the evening.

After breakfast we travel through spectacular Glen Shiel with stunning mountain scenery for some free time in the charming village of Fort Augustus on the shores of Loch Ness. At your leisure, explore Urquhart Castle, that was extensively raided on several occasions by the powerful MacDonald Clan. Spend the afternoon at Culloden Battlefield and the ancient standing stones and burial cairns at Clava before arriving in Inverness city for the evening. If desired, explore the city on foot this evening.

Today we tour south through the Cairngorms National Park with large tracts of Caledonian Pine Forest, where we visit Carrbridge village and follow the scenic Old Military Road to Ruthven Barracks. On our way to Pitlochry town, we stop at 
Dalwhinnie Distillery for a dram of the ‘Gentle Malt’ if desired. Enjoy a stroll through Pitlochry high street to experience the array of interesting shops and cafes here before we complete the journey into Edinburgh.
