7 Day Outlander & Skye with Jacobite Steam Train

This 7 day journey is a fantastic introduction to Scotland and includes some important Outlander film locations along the way. Experience many different places along this route with some interesting planned stops that allow plenty of free time for you to explore further. Begin your adventure with a visit to historic Culross village and then loop your way around the Highlands, through Inverness, to the magical Isle of Skye. Following a full tour of the island, ride the traditional Jacobite Steam Train through beautiful west coast scenery, where the enchanting mountians of Glencoe and the calm waters of Loch Lomond provide the perfect end to this trip of a lifetime.

Day 1

Culross, Castle Leoch & Wallace Monument

This morning we head out to view the famous Forth Rail Bridge and then the charming village of Culross in Fife with a visit to impressive Culross Palace. After lunch we head for Doune Castle near Callander that featured as Castle Leoch in Outlander. Finish the day with a visit to the National Wallace Monument that commemorates Scotland's great hero William Wallace. The panoramic views from the top are stunning and are well worth the climb. Overnight Stirling.

Day 2

Stirling, Perthshire & Blair Castle

This morning we start our day at Stirling Castle for a full tour to take in the castle's long and turbulent history. Touring north, we make our way to the small, historc town of Dunkeld and visit Blair Castle. Unlike any other in Scotland, the castle covers events such as Mary Queen of Scots' visit, the Civil War, the Jacobite cause, and the destruction of Culloden after Bonnie Prince Charlie's personal stay there. Overnight Inverness.

Day 3

Capital of the Highlands

This morning allows for free time in the beautiful city of Inverness, the "Capital of the Highlands”. After lunch we'll be exploring Culloden battlefield on foot where you will learn more about the fate of the Jacobites that fought here in 1746. Then we make our way to the whisky distillery for an informative and fun tour and tasting. Overnight Inverness.

Day 4

Loch Ness & Eilean Donan Castle

Today we tour west on a relaxing journey to the Isle of Skye. We begin with a visit to Beauly market town before taking in Loch Ness, where we will stop at the charming village of Fort Augustus on the southern shores for a look around and some lunch. Up next is beautiful scenery as we tour through Glenshiel, a stunning mountain landscape that becomes ever more rugged as we tour west. Spend the afternoon visiting iconic Eilean Donan Castle long held by the Mackenzies of Kintail. Overnight nr Skye.

Day 5

Isle of Skye

Explore the Isle of Skye, known locally as ‘The Misty Isle’. We pass through Broadford town and past the rugged Cuillin Mountains which are a prominent feature. A stop in the main settlement, Portree, with colourful houses and traditional harbour gives a chance to shop, photograph the scenery, and enjoy some lunch. Later, we head north to admire the spectacular scenery and views at the Old Man of Storr and Kilt Rock Falls. Overnight nr Skye

Day 6

Jacobite Steam Train

This morning we tour through south Skye where we board the ferry and travel back to the mainland, arriving in Mallaig for a look around this traditional fishing village. This afternoon you'll board the Jacobite steam train, now famous as the Harry Potter “Hogwarts Express,” and enjoy the fantastic views along the route, which forms part of the West Highland Railway that was built to help open up this remote part of the Scottish coast. Overnight near Fort William.

Day 7

Glencoe & Loch Lomond

The journey south takes us through the stunning highland scenery to the mountains of Glencoe to the beautiful Lochside town of Inveraray where we visit the castle and gardens here. We will then make our way through the fabulous Scottish landscape, exploring the mountains, glens and lochs of Scotland’s first National Park and the picturesque village of Luss as we make our way back to Edinburgh where we say our goodbyes.
